POBLANO HUMMUS

Everyone loves hummus. It’s Mediterranean salsa. It’s a perfect dip but also a great add to sandwiches, pasta, or really any meal. I’ve been an avid fan for years. But during the great Netflix and cry of 2020 I didn’t want to go to the store very often. Even the biggest containers of hummus didn’t last me very long. So I bought some garbanzo peas (chickbeans) and a food processor and learned how to do it myself.

Clearly I'm not revolutionizing hummus but for those who never thought about making it themselves, this recipe is for you. The best part is that making hummus is just making jazz. Make it however you want. I made a batch once, with turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne, garlic salt, and cumin. You could even make a sweet hummus. The possibilities are truly endless and it’s hard to mess up. I’m just giving you the framework. It’s a very easy dish to make for parties, pot lucks, office events, or even I’m sorry I forgot your birthday, here’s some fresh hummus.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of soaked chickpeas

  • 1 poblano pepper

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • Olive oil to taste

  • 1 Tablespoon Tahini

  • Trader Joe’s Green Goddess seasoning blend

  • Trader Joe’s Citrusy Cuban seasoning blend

  • Cayenne pepper

  • Garlic salt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. If using dry chickpeas, soak in water for 24 to 48 hours.

  2. The amounts in the ingredients section are only suggestions. You may need to change the amounts based on the size of your food processor. Start by filling your food processor with chickpeas no more than ¾ of the way full.

  3. Drown chickpeas in olive oil and chop to a chunky peanut butter consistency.

  4. Add in tahini, peppers, garlic, seasoning and any other ingredients.

  5. Blend into creamy hummus while seasoning to desired taste.

  6. Pour yourself another beer and enjoy!

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BEER

New Belgium is one of the breweries that inspired the craft beer culture in Colorado. Fat Tire is their best known beer. It's a malty amber that’s perfect any time of year and with almost any food. I love a football Sunday with yum yum hum and some cold Fatty T’s. I also have been known to bring hummus and Fat Tire to game nights with friends. Bottoms up!
