BURGER & FRIES

Updated: Feb 26, 2023

How could I start a plant-based cooking show and not start with a burger and fries? When I was a kid, every time we ate out I would order a burger. It makes sense that an Impossible burger was the first thing I made completely plant-based. I have tried every variety of ‘beef’ ground and tweaked the recipe several times . But the texture and flavor of Impossible makes me feel like I am having a regular old burger.

Sure, the well seasoned burger patty is delicious, but I REALLY liked the topping. Cheese, bacon, and jalapeños is a winner. Egg is a real pro move. For this episode I’m keeping it simple. Feel free to take this blueprint and build a milly dollar burger if you want.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Trader Joe’s ciabatta roll

  • Violife mature cheddar sliced cheese

  • Impossible burger

  • Red onion

  • Large tomato

  • Arugula (or any kind of lettuce)

  • Mustard

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Olive oil

  • Russet potatoes (or any type of potato you like)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Set the oven to 450F.

  2. Cut potatoes into fry-like size. Spread potatoes on a baking sheet and coat in olive oil, salt, and pepper. Place potatoes in the oven for 30-40 mins (or until golden brown and crispy).

  3. Cut impossible burger ground into halves. Form ground into 2 patties. Season both sides heavily with salt and pepper.

  4. Turn on the burner and set to medium-low. Grease skillet with olive oil. Place burger patties onto the hot skillet. Cook until edges start to darken and flip. Place cheese slices on patty and cover skillet with lid or foil.

  5. Cut veggie toppings and toast those buns.

  6. Place the cooked burger and veggies on the toasted bun. Top with mustard.

  7. Pour yourself another beer and enjoy!

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BEER

My beer choice is one of my fav IPAs. I had an Odell beer for the first time at a soccer stadium of all places. It was their 90 Shilling ale. But I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t wait to try more from them. They make many fine IPAs but the Flagship IPA (that’s the name) is by far the best. It has a big hop flavor that is smooth and pleasantly sweet but it’s not too heavy so you can have a few. Cheers!
